Living History in Ecclesall Woods

We have made a video of the Woods through our sister project – Ecclesall Wood Land  – also funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Ecclesall Woods is South Yorkshire’s largest Ancient Woodland, and this video shows us how people have used the woods over the centuries, and how they are using it now. Enjoy! If you want to find out more, come and join us on the Wilderness Skills Course next week!

Come and help us Light up the Hill!

Light up the Hill is an amazing lantern lit night time procession up Wincobank Hill. The event combines darkness and light, trees and fire and music and drama to help bring the ancient history of Wincobank Hillfort to life.  It is free to visitors from near and far. Watch a video of Light up the Hill 2012 here:

Roots of Iron will be joining the fun by working with young people to make a film or animation based on themes of Wincobank Hill through time. The film will be shown along with the drama as part of the event. There will also be opportunities to join in with the drama, and, of course, make some lanterns. The first session will take place on Tuesday 30th September at Wincobank Chapel at 6pm till 8pm. The sessions are free, and open to young people aged 11 -25.
