Roots of Iron

  Ancient Oak to Sheffield Steel – Hands on Heritage

Sheffield City Council Woodlands Team, the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Futures and the Friends of Wincobank Hill were successful in their bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund. We want to help young people aged 11 to 25 to get involved with some of the fantastic landscape heritage to be found in North East Sheffield, and learn how Sheffield history in steel has shaped some of our most beautiful landscapes.

Roots of Iron currently runs on a Tuesday evening at 6 till 8 at the Sheffield Futures Youth Club at Wincobank Chapel, but where possible is run in the woods and green spaces of North East Sheffield.     The sessions are exciting, engaging and hands on. Young people are able to choose the makeup of their programme.
